Description
The Career and Technical Education Consortium of States (CTECS) will present on the components and guiding philosophy of its Workplace Readiness Skills (WRS) Credential Package. This full array of strategies will help close the gap between the classroom and the workplace and we are excited to offer it and to work with other countries in adapting our materials for their use. CTECS offers a new complete educational pipeline approach to teaching and measuring WRS, especially important for at-risk populations, ultimately connecting students to employment or postsecondary opportunities. We do this through recognition and application of a research-based list of high criticality workplace behaviors and aptitudes required of any emerging worker, regardless of career path. This list helps us to further define global competencies for workforce development. In addition, we offer this strategy to complement existing CTE programs. Rather than taking instructional time away from technical skill training, the workplace readiness behavioral skills are taught within the context of CTE/vocational programs, which adds to student engagement, knowledge retention, and goal-oriented and meaningful pursuits that form the catalyst to any individual growth or social change. According to employers, even though emerging workers often have the technical skills, they still lack those durable skills that enable students to find employment that matches their values, to stand out as job candidates, and to make them more hirable and more likely to advance successfully in their careers. Echoing IVETA's organizational competencies, CTECS operates as a not-for-profit education consortium in the United States that provides industry-based resources and services for the improvement of career technical education and workforce development instruction, assessment, certification, and delivery. We are very interested in going beyond our traditional borders.
