Bio

Alexa Schlechter is the Director of Pilots for Career Kickstart at the College Board. She began her career in 2004 as a high school English teacher, where she spent a decade helping students transform their learning through collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Always looking to advance the possibilities of educational innovation, Alexa transitioned from the classroom to district educational technology administration, where she helped to pilot and lead several wide-scale technology initiatives and supported learners in mastering new digital literacies. Most recently, she served as Assistant Principal and CTE Pathway Director at Denver South High School where she created and built articulated career and technical education pathways that focused on providing equitable access to high-demand skills training. Alexa believes that investment in career-focused education is essential to breaking cycles of poverty, eradicating historical gaps in education, and facilitating success for typically under-served populations.

Alexa earned a Master’s degree in Secondary Teaching from Sacred Heart University and a Master’s degree in Educational Technology from the University of Connecticut, and lives in Westminster, CO with her husband Aaron, and children Caleb (12) and Abigail (11). When not extoling the virtues of high school career exploration, she enjoys spending her time hiking, running, skiing, reading, visiting national parks, and enjoying life in the Colorado sunshine. Alexa is passionate about fitness, cooking for friends and family, Top Chef, Keith Haring, and pizza.
