Bio

Dr. Brandon Russell is the Director of Career and Technical Education at Columbia Public Schools’ Columbia Area Career Center in Columbia, Missouri. His career in education spans 27 years and includes six years as the Graphic Arts instructor at Carrollton Area Career Center and 21 years in career education leadership and central office administration. Dr. Russell served as Director of Lex La-Ray Technical Center, Assistant Superintendent at Marshall Public Schools, and the Director of the Jefferson College Area Technical School. Dr. Russell has also taught a variety of courses for the University of Central Missouri, ranging from desktop publishing and printing to courses in CTE leadership and instruction.

Prior to becoming an educator, Dr. Russell worked in the newspaper business as the editor of the Carrollton (MO) Daily Democrat, the Public Relations Coordinator at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, and as the assistant to the Mayor of the Town of Carrollton.

Russell has an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Saint Louis University, an Ed.S. in Educational Administration- Superintendency, and an M.S. in Industrial Vocational Technical Education from the University of Central Missouri. His college career started at Kansas City Kansas Community College, where he earned an A.A., before transferring to Northwest Missouri State University, where he earned a B.S. in Journalism and Graphic Communications.

As an active member of the Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education (MoACTE) he has served both associations in a variety of ways during his career. Dr. Russell is the current Vice President of Region III and serves on the national ACTE Board of Directors. He also served as the president of MoACTE, and twice as president of the Missouri Council of Career and Technical Administrators (MCCTA).

Dr. Russell also supports SkillsUSA, a career and technical student organization, as the Technical Chair for the Career Pathways Showcase contest at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA, and the Missouri Leadership and Skills Conference at State Technical College of Missouri.
