Bio
Melissa Allers is a wife of 25 years and mom of two beautiful grown and married daughters. Like many CTE teachers she began her second career in education in 2014. Prior to that she worked for 20+ years in the medical field working alongside Orthopedic surgeons. During her career in the medical field, she wore many hats doing coding and billing, surgery scheduling, pre-authorization, and medical assisting. Upon rumors of one of the physicians retiring, she decided to leave the medical field and start her teaching journey. She began working at oTECH - Osceola Technical College (then named TECO - Technical Education Center of Osceola) in October 2014. She started working nights teaching a small cohort of medical coding/billing students. She worked at oTECH teaching that program for 7 years. She was also "Voluntold" in 2016 that she would chaperone for the State SkillsUSA conference that year. After that conference, she became one of the SkillsUSA advisors for the school's chapter of High School and Postsecondary students, where she now serves as the Florida Region 3 SkillsUSA Coordinator for the past 2 years. She moved to the District CTE Department 2 ½ years ago to become a District CTE Resource Specialist. She has found her new passion in teaching, and where there are days she misses her students and being in the classroom; she loves her new role as it allows her the opportunity to continue to spread the love she has for career and technical education all around her school district providing teacher and student support in a different way.
