Bio for Dr. Mary Jo Self
Our presenter today is Dr. Mary Jo Self from Oklahoma State University, Tulsa campus. She holds a bachelors degree from OSU in home economics education, a masters degree from Central State University and an Ed.D. from Oklahoma State. She has a total of 43 years in career and technical education in the state of Oklahoma. She began her teaching career at Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center at Ft. Cobb teaching culinary arts and taught in that program for 17 years. She also worked on that campus as a youth apprenticeship coordinator for two years. She moved into administration next at Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater. She then was the coordinator of a Carl Perkins grant for the Northwest Oklahoma consortium. In 2000 she joined the faculty of Oklahoma State. She is an associate professor in the Educational Leadership program and holds the Francis Tuttle Endowed Chair in Workforce and Adult Education. She is also a Faculty Fellow with the Graduate College. For her profession, she is the current president of the University Council for Workforce and Human Resources Education as well as secretary of the Board of Trustees for the National Occupational Testing Institute (NOCTI). Her areas of expertise are teacher preparation, induction and mentoring as well as career stages of teachers. Her passion is what makes learning occur and how best educators can facilitate the process.
She is married to her husband, Jim and together they have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. She enjoys OSU sports, quilting, walking and being with family.
