David Barbour
Bio
Dr. David Barbour is an Education Consultant with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Trade and Industrial Education. His work experience demonstrates a diverse knowledge base that includes 23 years in the computer industry in the technical and quality field, seven years in mobile phone research development/quality area, and 22 years in secondary education. He is currently in charge of over 15 curriculum projects for the state of North Carolina including Law & Public Safety, Advanced Manufacturing, and UAS Remote Piloting (Drones). He is a certified FAA UAS Remote Pilot Certification (Part 107) along with the NCDOT UAS Operator permit for both government and commercial operations. NC high schools now have 62 schools teaching, and another 40 planning to teach Drone Piloting programs. Dr. Barbour also currently serving as the Past-Chair for the Law and Public Safety Education Network (LAPSEN) Board of Directors.
David served as a Johnston County classroom teacher for his first five years in education and as a state education consultant in the field of Trade and Industrial Education for his last sixteen years.
He has served in numerous positions in his professional organizations including the executive board of directors and division president. He is currently on the executive board of directors for the NC SkillsUSA.
David is married to Connie who is a 2nd grade teacher, and he is a father of two. He has a 35-year-old son, Austin Barbour, who is a high school Public Safety teacher and an active EMT. His second child is an 18-year-old daughter who just graduated high school and currently attending Johnston Community College. He has identical twin granddaughter who just turned 13 and the youngest granddaughter is 5. David also pastor’s a Church and is a high school varsity sports official who works football, baseball, and softball.
