Bio

April Pelfrey is a computer science and cybersecurity teacher at Duluth High School in Duluth, GA. She is a second career teacher with a Master's Degree in Workforce Education after spending 15 years in the corporate environment doing data analysis, mapping and security analysis as a contractor for the Department of Defense. In her seven years of teaching, she has taught AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, Introduction to Digital Technology, Game Design: Animation & Simulation, Introduction to Cybersecurity, and Advanced Cybersecurity.

Beyond her passion to serve her students, April helps to support and provide resources to computer science teachers across the state. April piloted Cybersecurity Pathway for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS). She also serves as the Information Technology Cluster Coach for GCPS, providing leadership, support, resources, and professional development to 97 computer science teachers and 5 curriculum leaders across 36 different schools offering high school computer science courses. She is a lead instructor in a Computer Science Endorsement Program for GCPS. She also leads the GCPS District Computer Science Advisory Board to ensure course offerings align to industry needs/standards.

April is passionate in providing training, resources, and support so that all students in Georgia have the opportunity to take quality computer science courses, regardless of their school or demographic. You may recognize April as she currently serves as a CS Virtual Specialist for the GA Department of Education, offering digital professional development on a monthly basis to educators across the state. She has also presented at the following conferences: ACTE Visions Conference Fall 2019, TestOut Leadership Experience Conference Summer 2019, ACTE Visions Conference Fall 2021, CyberStart America Educator Summit Summer 2022, Constellations #CS4ALL Summit Summer 2022, CS Summer Institute GCPS Summer 2019, 2021, 2022, GACTE Summer 2022 and is published in ACTE Techniques Magazine September 2019.
