Cindy Miller
Bio
Cynthia (Cindy) Miller is an Assistant Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences Education in the College of Human Sciences at Texas Tech University. Prior to coming to Texas Tech, she was an Assistant Professor for Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Coordinator of the Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences degree program at Eastern New Mexico University for three and half years. She was also a former CTE administrator for two West Texas school districts for 13 years and before then was a secondary business education teacher for 11 years in Lubbock. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Secondary Business Education, and her Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from Texas Tech University.
She was an ACTE National Finalist for the Outstanding CTE Teacher Educator Award in 2021. She served as President, Past President, and Board of Director At-Large (2017-2020) for the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). She is also nationally certified as a Family & Consumer Sciences Educator and a Personal Family & Finance Educator by AAFCS. She also served as a board member for Area I on the Career and Technology Association of Texas’ board from 1999-2012. When not researching and teaching, she enjoys hanging out with her family, traveling, and reading mystery novels.
Her research interests include developing high-quality career development systems in secondary CTE programs; investigating the quality of work-based learning opportunities provided in secondary Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) programs; and integrating global competency curriculum tools and resources in Family & Consumer Sciences Education programs in preparing future FCS teachers to effectively develop and integrate global lessons, as well as in providing global learning opportunities with other FCS programs across the world.
